Article 17 Abolition of Untouchability.

This article abolishes untouchability. Its practice in any form is forbidden. So is enforcing any disability that arises from it. Parliament backed this with a criminal law against untouchability. No custom, and no payment, can justify treating any person as untouchable.

  1. “Untouchability” is abolished and its practice in any form is forbidden. The enforcement of any disability arising out of “Untouchability” shall be an offence punishable in accordance with law.
